Emerge is a private practice specializing in Occupational and Speech Therapies for infants, toddlers and children.  Our mission is to enhance the lives of the children we serve and the families who love them by providing a fun, nurturing and supportive environment designed to improve the child’s sensory, motor, communication, self-help and social skills.  We currently have offices in both Chapel Hill and Durham.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric occupational therapy helps children be successful in everyday life, including school/home, play/social, and self-care activities.  Our occupational therapists have advanced training in sensory processing and sensory integration.

Pediatric Speech Therapy

Pediatric speech therapy helps children learn to communicate more effectively. Our speech therapy programs are typically based in play (especially for younger children).  Our speech therapists are receiving ongoing training in the Floortime approach for autism and are experienced in working with children who have oral apraxia.

Sensory processing disorder

Sensory processing involves the ability to appropriately register, attend to, interpret, and execute a response to sensory input from the environment and from within the body. Most children with sensory processing disorders are born with these challenges. We provide sensory processing/integration techniques to help your child deal with their disorder.

Emerge is a private practice dedicated to providing the best in occupational and speech services for children and their families. Emerge was founded by Bonnie J. Hacker MHS, OTR/L, a pediatric occupational therapist. Beginning in 1979, Bonnie J. Hacker developed a private practice that grew into Emerge - A Child’s Place, helping change the lives of thousands of children. We’ve built our reputation by providing the highest level of care. Our offices are fun and nurturing, with careful attention to a supportive environment designed to enhance your child’s developmental, sensory, motor, communication and social needs.
