Emerge – A Child’s Place was founded by Bonnie J. Hacker, MHS, OTR/L in 2001. Bonnie began offering private therapy in this area in 1979 and was one of the pioneers of pediatric occupational therapy in the Durham and Chapel Hill areas. She shared her expertise and support with the entire staff of Emerge — A Child‘s Place before her retirement in 2018. Emerge is now under the ownership of Brittni Winslow, MS, OTR/L. Brittni has been an occupational therapist with Emerge – A Child’s Place since 2012. She has served as the Fieldwork Coordinator, Clinical Director of Occupational Therapy, and currently serves as the Executive Director.
Our staff is constantly learning new ideas and techniques. We offer state-of-the-art clinics, equipment and treatments for more effective results. Plus, we get many referrals from parents, physicians, psychologists, teachers and other therapists. That says a lot about occupational and speech therapy you and your family can trust.
Parent education is a cornerstone at Emerge. We work closely with parents to help them understand and help their children. You are the first expert about your child and we want to do everything we can to help you provide the support your child needs.
We have strong connections in the community. We welcome visits from other professionals at our clinics and Emerge therapists are often found in the community visiting classrooms and providing consultations.
We hope you will choose Emerge as your therapy home. But wherever you choose, make sure the program is a good fit for you and your child. We encourage you to visit the facility, then ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you and your child feel comfortable and welcome?
- Are your concerns listened to and addressed?
- Do you feel the kind of positive energy needed to support change and development?
Our mission is to enhance the lives of the children we serve and the families who love them by providing a fun, nurturing and supportive therapeutic environment.
