Adventure Squad – Winter/Spring 2019
DEVELOPING SOCIAL & PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
THROUGH NATURE, SCIENCE, ART & CULINARY GROUP PROJECTS
for children 5 thru 7 years old
Adventure Squad is a small group therapy program focusing on social skills through project-based activities with a nature theme. The group will focus on developing social interaction skills by building awareness of peer perspective taking through cooperative and fun group projects. Group members will have opportunities to utilize the Emerge garden and explore nature, while being challenged with generating project ideas, gathering materials and executing plans for gardening, science, cooking and art projects. Projects will provide opportunities for group problem solving and teamwork, as well as negotiation and retention of individual roles and responsibilities within each project. This program will include social communication concepts from Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking ® curricula, and application of self-regulation strategies. The group is co-led by two therapists, and will be limited to six children in order to provide individualized attention.
